I have heard so many different things about this and decided to just start a post in hopes of getting some people’s opinions. I speak four languages (english, spanish, arabic, and korean). I am just wondering if it’s something I should put a lot of emphasis on when it comes to applying and interviewing for med school. I of course know that a good MCAT score and GPA are the most important, however will my language experience give me an “edge” if, say my academic scores don’t come out to be the absolute best? I am currently translating for a global online health company and was also recently reached out to about translating spanish and arabic for doctors and patients at the University of Michigan hospitals. I also plan to take a semester off and study abroad in Madrid, Spain next year.
Any thoughts?
Just for logistics, I’m a sophomore at umich planning on double majoring in Neuroscience and Spanish
Thanks!
