The first semester of college i did very well but the following semester i was having a lot of family issues as a result effected my grades. I ended up failing two class(government, trigonometry) and withdrew out of pre-calc. my GPA dropped down to a 2.0. I'm currently in my sophomore year and fall semester I took government again and received an A. and my current GPA is a 2.99. i have not failed any science class always received an A. I know I'm not competitive right now which sucks. This semester im doing very well. I just want to know if this will effect my chances of getting into MD program? What other options do I have?

No, allopathic medical schools do NOT allow grade replace/grade forgiveness.

AMCAS instructions to applicants, p. 8

Your options include:

osteopathic medical schools (which do allow grade replacement)

postponing your allopathic med school application until after graduation to allow you more time to repair your GPA (some medical schools will consider a slightly lower GPA if you have a strongly upward trend in your grades)

a grade-enhancing post bacc program or SMP if you are unable to raise your GPA sufficiently during your undergrad
