This past semester I took intermediate algebra and was freaking out trying to do my best in it while not putting as much effort into my other classes as it because I had already taken algebra before I transferred but the credits didn’t transfer over. I realized that this was because my current college doesn’t consider algebra as credit bearing so they wanted me to take theirs and I was relieved when they told me that they weren’t going to give me credit for their algebra course either; and as long as I finish with a D, I could move onto precalculus. When they told me this I focused mainly on my classes that would harm my GPA if I didn’t work hard enough in them. This semester I ended up with a 3.857 GPA despite the D I got in math. My cumulative is a 3.312 and climbing and I was wondering if medical schools would wonder why I have a D in algebra or would they just consider me about my science grades and overall GPA?
If it is on your transcript they will see the D, and they will wonder if you are capable of handling the work in medical school.
That said, if you have a stellar remaining college career, and have great MCAT scores, you might have some success in getting interviews. But a 3.3 is very low for med school, and you’ll have to bring it up substantially. Obviously they want students who put full effort into every class, every semester.
