will midyear report hamper the decisions a lot?

so i just recently got my first semester grades, well i had a lotta hope in Hopkins for ED cuz my guidance counselor pumped me up a lot, so yeah, some shaky grades as a lot of them fell since first quarter
will they hamper my decisions a lot? or will they at least give me some sympathy for 6 AP's senior year?

GPA through junior year - un-weighted- 91.1%
weighted- 93.97%
GPA has shown a slight upward trend in weighted GPA from freshman to junior years
Fresh- 91.14 un-weight
91.79 weight (took only one honor class)
Soph- 90.57 un-weight (really bad in one class-honors french)
93.76 weight
Junior- 91.33 un-weight
97.43 weight

First Semester
AP Chem.-87.5 so about 88
AP Phys. B- 81.5 so about 82
AP English Lit.- ~81- have not received official 2nd quarter grade
AP Latin-~81 have not received official 2nd quarter grade
AP Calc AB-91
AP Macro- 91.5 so about 92

leading to a weighted GPA of 94 and un weighted GPA of 85.6 for first semester

school doesnt rank so dont have rank/percentile

SAT- 2130 superscore (760 math, 680CR, 690 writing)
2100 one sitting

SAT II's- 800- Bio M
730- Math 2
770- World history

Decent EC's- V. Football for 3 years, captain senior year
V. Track
Mock Trial
National Hnr Society
NYS Math Hnr Society

Have taken 4 AP's, will end up having taken 10 AP's
Soph- AP World His. -5

Junior- AP Bio.-5
AP. English Lang.-3
AP AMerican His.-5

one rec is ehh, other is good

so is all of the above in addition to being asian going to hamper my admission chances for these schools?

my guidence counselor said not really but this is the same guy who told me i have a solid chance of getting into Hopkins bio major and i got straight up rejected from ED so idk if his judgement is the best....what do you guys think?

SUNY Stony Brook- Intended Major: Biomedical Engineering
Cornell University- Intended Major: Biology
Rice University - Intended Major: Bioengineering
Northwestern University- Intended Major: Biomedical Engineering
University of Pennsylvania- Intended Major: Biology
Wesleyan University- Intended Major: Molecular Biology + Biochemistry
Washington University in St. Louis- Intended Major- Biomedical Engineering
Boston University- Intended Major: Biomedical Engineering
Duke University- Intended Major: Biology
Carnegie Mellon- Intended Major: Biology
Emory University-Intended Major: Biology

It’s hard to tell without class rank but I would say that you have a pretty slim chance of all of the schools except for Stony Brook and BU (where you should easily be accepted). Your SAT scores are sub-par, your GPA is just ok, and your list of ec’s is limited. However, keep your chin up and i’m sure you will be happy wherever u go

well id be content with BU, and if i get scholarship money id more likely go but cornell would be my top 1 as of right now, 98% id go if i got in

thanks for input

bumpppppppppp

I do not think it will hurt your chances considering your weighted GPA is not significantly lower. Colleges like to see applicants challenging themselves senior year (which you clearly are) even if it does compromise your GPA. I mean, I can’t say you’ll get into all those schools but your senior GPA should not be the factor that prevents you from getting in.

bumpppppppppp

Decent EC’s- V. Football for 3 years, captain senior year
V. Track
Mock Trial
National Hnr Society
NYS Math Hnr Society

^ECs got you rejected from Hopkins.

@1042394059681729 i figured that out when i was looking online at student profiles and i stumbled upon a stat that like 60% of undergraduates have done prior research before college

See, your thing is, your academics certainly match JHU’s stats.

Your application lacks focus.
You need ECs which concentrate around your target major and hopefully convey them how a JHU education will enable you to change the world. (full of cliches, but this is how the system works)

You could have formulated your application so that it seems like:

V. Football for 3 years, captain senior year
V. Track
Mock Trial
National Hnr Society
NYS Math Hnr Society

I did varsity football- in order to meditate and feel the pumping veins.
Mock Trial is another passion of mine.
And then add some medical or bioengineering ECs such as regular hospital volunteering+ research experiences.
Lab Club could have been fine, too.

i did have some hospital volunteering experience, i wrote that stuff in my application
but i have 0 research or any of that, my school doesnt really have any science orientated clubs

my school doesnt really have any science orientated clubs
^That’s when you get the initiative and START a club.

well its a little too late for that…

bumpppppppp

bumpppppppp

i applied to duke, unc, emory, and vanderbilt. vandy and duke are reach schools for me I got into unc in EA but i’m kind in the same prob you’re in w/ mid-year grades.

What unc told me is that they want to see the similar grade results that got me in. So whatever results u showed since freshman year, u have to be consistent till the end of senior year. Now if your grades on your transcript are similar to the ones u stated then I wouldn’t worry, but if they dropped from like 5 A’s to all B’s than this will definitely hurt you.

Now the important thing is wait for the decisions and enjoy ur senior year man.

bumpppppppp
