Will my boyfriend come to college with me?

We want to transfer to davis in winter 2007. He pretty much failed all his classes his first year and went up and down but has been consistently a good student for about a year now. He made up all the F's and here are his stats:

GPA: 3.05
Major : Political Science
Extra Curicular: 100+hours/year
Work: 40+hours a week
Units completed at time of transfer: 70 Semester Units
First generation college student
Hispanic

What do you think his chances are at Davis given he has a great essay?

The average gpa of Davis admits is around a 3.4; but I still think he has a chance. Perhaps he can make the argument that working the hours he works has hurt his grades.

Here is one of his essays...not sure if this helps anything?

Question: Is there anything you would like us to know about you or your academic record that you have not had the opportunity to describe elsewhere in the application?*

My academic record doesn't reflect the effort I've put into attaining an education. Although I produced poor results in my first semester at SRJC,I refused to give up because in every mistake exists the opportunity to learn something. The mistakes I made in my first semester at SRJC forced me to evaluate myself and make adjustments to perform better. I found ways to change my results and made more time to focus on studying while balancing a thirty-hour work week, helping my mom, volunteering as a baseball coach and helping non-profit organizations.

My academic record cannot show you the difficulties I've faced in the past two years; emotional stress as a result of my parents' divorce and financial hardships that forced me to work, sometimes at the expense of having to drop classes. I've had to focus on passing classes and getting the most out of them. When I didn't pass a particular class, I refused to give up and took it again.

Furthermore, my transcript can't show that the mistakes I've made have prepared me for college. I am better able to deal with pressure, financial struggles, and emotional stresses college students face. These difficulties have actually inspired me to work harder and attend UCD.

He still has a chance. The essay is alright imo. Just make sure he fixes the grammatical errors in it cause I see a few. Good luck!

doesn't davis have a guaranteed adm program?

I once asked a Davis rep about acceptance for chem majors. She told me 3.05.

I think he has a very good shot since he did all his prereqs and hopefully igetc.

They have an agreement but he would have to wait until fall 2007 and he is already done with everything (major prep + IGETC) so it would be kind of a waste of a year and a half for him.

"doesn't davis have a guaranteed adm program?"

Yes, they do. And yes, I believe the GPA minimum is 3.05 (or 3.0).

No he will breakup with you because you stink.

your bf definitely has a chance.. i have a friend who got 2.9 got in UC davis nutrition.

Im sure he'll get into Davis. The TAG between Davis and DVC or most other community colleges only requires a 2.8 GPA. and I have friends who got in with 2.9 GPA..

Good luck!
