Right now, I attend a really competitive (private) high school (in Canada). I have a 96.4% average, but even then, I'm probably only ranked somewhere between 5th-10th out of a class of 110. My question is, when I apply to university (considering going to the States right now), how badly will this affect my application?

Since when has being in the top 5-10% of your class been worthy of an “only”? This sounds like an imaginary problem.

I don’t know…it’s just that I feel like it’ll be harder as an international student…

How badly will what affect your application? Being in the top 4-8% in your school?

Mainly that, because on a lot of the threads I see on CC, everyone is ranked 1-3 out of a much bigger class than mine.

I don’t think there’s any major difference between first and fifth, especially if your school is very competitive. I imagine being an international student will be somewhat detrimental no matter how awesome you are.
