Hello,
I was looking into applying for graduate school for business. During my undergraduate work I attended a community college and earned an overall 3.2 GPA and completed my AA. However, I then transferred and went to a university and completed only one semester but ended up with a 1.5 GPA. I was lucky enough to transfer to a different university and have been back on track earning a 3.3 GPA so far, but my concern is the 1.5 GPA I had at the one university for the one semester is going to affect my application to where it just leaves a mark where no admissions counselor wants to look at, or are they looking for start to finish during my work in college? Thank you.
Yes, admissions is interested in your entire GPA from start to finish. So they will see, and consider, the 1.5 - and yes, the GPA will affect your admission. However, that doesn’t mean that you won’t get in anywhere - it depends on the strength of the rest of your application. Business schools are especially interested in your professional experience and leadership, so make the most of those and try to get your grades up so you can reference an upward trend. You also may be able to explain the 1.5 in separate admissions materials (like a supplemental essay) if there’s a compelling reason that you did so poorly for one semester.
Hello,
Thanks for answering my question. So do you feel they would deny me admission for just one semester that I did poorly on?
I think that was answered in:
I think you should try to explain why it happened. So they will know why it will not happen again in the MBA program.
