Will my son's college appl lose competitveness if school does not provide counselor recommendations

My son’s school does not provide counselor recommendations. They just put a boiler plate wording that school district does not provide counselor recommendations to any one.

He is planning to apply for BS/MD track besides some very selective pre-med schools.

Does this alone kill competitiveness of my son’s college application.

Do any students at the school apply to, or are admitted to, colleges that require counselor reports or recommendations?

Yes. Some students went to highly selective schools.

I guess that’s your answer then.

I suspect that most schools are used to getting boiler plate letters from counselors, so I can’t see how boiler plate saying the counselor doesn’t write letters is any worse. The purpose of that letter is to put the school into context, but the school profile should be able to do most of that. Much more important to get good letters from teachers who know the kid at least as a student, if not as a person.

No - this is what school’s do, especially large ones. There should be some components/choices they choose - but most kids don’t know their counselors at all (at large schools) - at least that’s the experience in our district.
