Hi Dan,

This is 1:30 in the morning, the time I post this new thread, just because I can't sleep. And I don't think I can sleep until getting the answer... So if you read this please reply to me. Thank you!

I got my admissions (as a transfer student) to Tufts a couple weeks ago... I was extremely happy and turned in the confirmation letter immediately. My status now is enrolled. However, my result of Spring 2008 Semester at my present college is not good as previously...

Econ 102: A
Freshman English 102: B+
Differential Equation: A
General Physics II: A-
Physics II Lab: A (1)
Linear Algebra: W (2)

And here is my two problems:

(1) I wasn't "officially" enrolled in the Physics II Lab... They put me in the waiting list because the class was full the time I registered for it. I didn't realize that fact and still got everything done as did normal students. Finally, I just didn't receive any credit for that. And it wouldn't show up on my transcript of course! To resolve this problem, the Chair of Physics Department at my present college suggested me to register for Physics II Lab again in this coming fall, but I won't have to attend actually. They would defer my credits earned in that class to the fall. He would be pleased to write a formal letter explaining the situation and certifying that I have fulfilled all the requirements as I declared in my initial application to Tufts.

(2) As you see, I have withdrawn from a Linear Algebra class... And although it doesn't affect my GPA, I receive a "W" grade in my transcript. I'm just worried the Admissions Officers would "carefully review" my application as they wrote in an acceptance letter. What would they think about that "W" grade?

Please, please let me know if the two problems above would affect the decision of the Admissions Office... This is Friday's night and I don't think anybody at Tufts would answer me during the weekend... I just can't sleep and don't know what to do during the LONGEST weekend in my life...

I have called my friend and asked for some doses that can drive me sleepy actually. You may not realize how that's important to me... At the time I turned in my confirmation of attending Tufts, I proudly declined all other offers from Cornell, BU and UMass Amherst. If now Tufts turns her back to me, I wouldn't know where to go...

It sounds ridiculous... but to tell the truth I withdrew from Linear Algebra not because I can't afford an "A" or what, but just because I didn't like the way the professor taught... And now seems too late for me...

I think that Tufts offers its students the choice of withdrawing from a class by a certain date - I remember reading it somewhere on their website. I'm sure plenty of students opt to take that choice, and I'm sure that they're not punished for it. So, why would it be any different in your case? Your present college offers the same choice, and you opted to take it. Perhaps it was an intelligent move. If you didn't like the way he taught, and you thought you could retake the class with another professor and learn the material better, then there's nothing wrong with your decision. I'm sure that Tufts will see it that way as well. Especially if you explain yourself.

Good luck! I hope to see you next fall (you'll be a sophomore, I'll be a freshman).

And congrats on your transfer admission to Tufts. From what I've heard, gaining admissions to Tufts as a transfer applicant is extremely difficult - like around 8 percent are accepted.

Hi EM, thank you for your early post. Although it's not "official" word from them, it's ease me so much as letting me know at least there's some one in the world not thinking I'm wrong.
I'm proud to be in the "8 percent accepted." On the other hand, I'm scared that they would treat me differently from freshmen. It was heard that somebody got revoked letter from Tufts because of his 2 "C"s in the senior year... My situation is not that bad... but I'm a transfer, not a freshman. The more difficult to get in, the easier to get out!
Yeah I'm glad to see you in Fall. No where is like Tufts. I'm hooked the time reading their essays' topics. So excited to see "people like me" everywhere in Medford... lol

Btw, where are you transferring from?

Hahaha... I have a feeling like this thread has only two of us.

I'm transferring from UMass Boston... I'm not native speaker so it's hard for me to get in Tufts directly when I first came here. So I decided to spend a year at a less intense college to learn the language, then transferring. At that time I didn't realize how hard it was.. but I've made that finally! (and of course don't want to lose in the last minute!)

Tufts is a really really great place... I didn't want to apply to any school in the so-called "Ivy" except for Cornell (which was my safety school in case I got rejected from Tufts).

You wouldn't know how much I LOVE TUFTS!

I LOVE Tufts too. I had my early decision application to Dartmouth all ready, when my mom told me she had an appointment in Boston and wanted to know if there were any other colleges in the area I wanted to visit. So, I went to Tufts. The moment I stepped on campus I fell in love. I had like butterflies in my stomach. For me, Tufts is the perfect college. No other college even compares. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else next year.

So, the rest is history. I decided to apply Early Decision to Tufts, and I was accepted. Thank god.

Called them but haven't gotten the answer...
Worried & Stressed & Overwhelmed
Where are you Dan?

To be honest, this isn't an appropriate venue for a question this specific to you. If you are this worried, you should call in and ask to speak with an admissions counselor about your circumstances. It's extremely unlikely that being forthcoming with our office will negatively affect you, and being proactive will minimize the effect of this transcript on you.

I'm proud to be a resource on CC, and my hope if that being on CC can help show you how accessible our office is when you have questions. Don't be afraid to call!
