Because of my massive creed of AP classes junior year, I only have three AP classes to take senior year: AP English, statistics, and government. I plan on not taking AP English because the teacher gives out only three A's in the class (true story) and the class is known to be insanely difficult. Furthermore, I am a more science/math oriented person so taking ap english simply wouldn't suit me. However, if I don't take it, i'll only being take 2 Ap's senior year. However, I will still be taking a few microbiology courses at a community college the same semester. But still, I can't help thinking that not taking AP Eng will bave the colleges see me as incompetent and unworthy of HYPMS .

If youre that worried just ****ing take it

Seriously. AP English isn’t difficult. I know you said your teacher only gives out a few A’s, but why can’t you be one of those? I am a math/sci person too, and AP English Lit has given me a necessary appreciation for classic literature and poetry. Moral: Don’t sell yourself short.

Just a thought-- if you are HYPSM worthy, you should be in the top three of a high school literature class.

^ real talk

There are a few things I should’ve made note of in my original post:

I will be researching in a lab during the school year in senior year, so I am unsure of whether I have 3-4 hours everyday to “appreciate” literature and maintain an A or A+ in AP English. As stated previously, I will also be taking microbiology/humanbio courses at a nearby community college, out of self-interest.

My biggest fear however, is not time management. I am not afraid of the AP english class, but rather the teacher. I ran into some troubles with him freshman year when I stupidly begged him to round me from an A- to an A (it was really close, but he did not round me anyway). the event made me look like another grade-obsessed asian to him, and he never treated me the same way again. I do not blame him though, I was pathetic back then and was overly obsessed with test scores and grades. I fear he will stay with this view, thereby sealing the fate of my grade to his class.

It should also be noted that if I do not take AP English, I will be self-studying the test myself. Infact, if I had more APs for me to take besides the three I mentioned, I would welcome it. I will also be self studying AP computer science.

Seems like you still are, if you’re worried about taking it (at least partially) due to the scarcity of As.
Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend you take it, as English is the most important subject you can take in high school. It’s the only class that you apply literally everywhere in your studies, because in every class you’re going to write. AP Lit also teaches you the ever-important skill of making snap (but smart) analysis of writing, and then being able to clearly express your observations.

Yes, it will ruin your chances at HYPSM if you don’t take it.

Honestly depends where your writing level is at and what the class would provide to you. Will not taking this one AP class kill your chances? No, of course not.

You will need to write in college quite often, though, so it is better to get prepared ahead of time. Do what makes the most sense to you in your circumstance.

I would take it. Colleges will notice if that’s the one AP class you’re avoiding.

This whole thread is absurdity.
Not taking one AP won’t ruin your chances. How much time do you think adcoms have to look at your application? Theyre not going to like scrutinize every facet. -.-
If you dont get in, it’ll probably be because of something else, not that one AP class you didn’t take.
As long as the rest of your schedule is as rigorous as possible, you’re fine. Gosh
