I heard somewhere that they don't even mind if it's one or two days late. I have a friend who applied a week late last year and still got in to Tisch... but then again that's just one instance.

In my case though, the reason I'm going to be a few hours late is because my grandmother passed away on the 26th and my family and I have been back and forth running errands with the funeral and cremation. It's been very hard to try and find time in the last couple of days to really sit down and finish what I started. Will NYU understand that this? Should I include this in my application or just not mention anything about why my app was late in the hopes that they won't check the time it was sent in?

First of all, I am very sorry for your loss and wish you all the best during this difficult time.

Second, personally, I would try to send it in on time. Although, I have heard that some colleges have a kind of grace period after deadlines that allow students to submit their applications a day or so late.

I would email the admissions office just in case though and tell them about your situation. (Make sure it doesn’t sound like a sob story though.)

I understand that college admissions is like a “help us help you” sort of deal so I just don’t want to give them an excuse to dub me an unworthy candidate.

OMG! I just checked slideroom.com because that’s the website where you’re supposed to submit your creative portfolio for Tisch’s Recorded Music program. I just wanted to check if the website locks you out if you don’t meet the deadline and I found out that they give you a two day grace period.

Yay! I feel better!

I mean, I’m not going to ride on that. I’m still late but it just assures me that NYU is pretty understanding with this kind of stuff. TWO WHOLE DAYS! Not that I need it but wow!
