I know Penn is a great school and I have a lot of interest in it, but I am doubting my abilities to get into Wharton. I have good scores and all, and obviously Penn is tough to get into, but I'm not sure I would get into Wharton. If I was to go to Penn's LSA and major in Econ, would I be at a serious disadvantage compared to the Wharton students in job interviews (especially IB)?

The College is known generally as the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the education you receive there is a lot different from what you would experience in Wharton. Wharton is more hands on and applications based, the traditional econ major is more theoretical. An econ major from the college can most definitely get the same jobs as people in Wharton and many do.
However, if you want to go to Wharton, you should apply there and not the College. The College is not considerably easier to get into despite misconceptions. Also it will not look good to admissions if they suspect you are trying to get into Wharton through the back door. Once you are at Penn it is very hard to internally transfer. Wharton’s class size is capped at a certain number and they only consider GPA in the transfer process. The minimum GPA required is quite high.

If you truly want to pursue business, apply to Wharton. Some CAS students that major in econ are successful in financial careers later in life, but, like Poeme said, the material and how it is taught is different. It relatively easy to transfer to CAS if you change your mind but more difficult the other way around. Perhaps consider ED.
