Okay, so UNC-Chapel Hill is my DREAM SCHOOL! I luv everything about their campus & what not.
So I applied regular decision, and I'm hoping I get accepted. Here's the thing-I think in Pre-Calculus, I'll end up w/ a D. Math is NOT my strongest subject. However, I take AP Calculus (AB) this upcoming semester and I'm hoping to redeem myself with an A or B. If I submit my midyear grades and explain why I have this D, do you think my chances are still good?

(Btw, Pre-Calc is Honors. And I'm an African-American student, idk if that helps!)
And for the most part, my grades have been consistent in high school (A's & B's), I've taken challenging courses, I have a host of extracurriculars, I have leadership positions in 3 organizations, I work a part-time job, I volunteer, AND my essays were pretty good. Just hoping stupid Pre-Calc doesn't ruin my chances of getting accepted or my decision rescinded!

you should try your best to get a C. At a program I went to, they pretty much said D’s were unacceptable. But I do know a student that is at UNC this year (class of 09) and he got a D in ap calc, and he still got in. He was a black male btw.

My sister got a C in PreCalc and got accepted to Carolina. You could also consider writing a supplemental essay about why you got that grade/why the class was so difficult for you? Good luck!
