Will reading books in the summer improve my CR score?

If I read books will my CR score rise? Or should i just spend time doing practice questions instead of reading books?

i dont read at all... i ran through a book for a book report between the march and may SATs and my CR score went from 510 to 640... i guess it was easier for me to concentrate.

Reading always helps, not just in CR but verbal and many other things. Don't read for a purpose, just do it for fun. Get more out of it then just a higher CR score.

But to answer your question directly, yes, it does. But results may vary.

i didnt read anything and i got 600.
damn!

Of course, if you have been reading little or nothing in the recent past, you need to get used to a joy of it.
The question is how effectively it will raise you scores.
The answer - not much.

SAT does not check reading skills - it tests ability of passing SAT, and CR as a part thereof.
There are working strategies, tips, methods, whatnot, of beating ETS/SAT in their game, and there are good books that show them.
Barron's for one.
People rave about grammatix - I don't know how whether it's good, I just bought it yesterday.
Another new book - solutions to the blue book questions by test makers. Don't know yet either.

After you learned some tricks, start doing ALL CR sections from the blue book, more then once, do practice tests from the CB site.
Not enough? Buy the older editions of the CB Real SAT's.

Work almost EVERY day, every consistent little bit is benefitial.

So therefore I should more practice tests . Right?

Right, just a section a time without timing yourself, but only after you studied and practiced some.
Look up excellent Xiggi's sat prep advice thread - especially his mini manual.

Just to benchmark yourself, do one timed CR section before you start your prep marathon, don't touch it for two months, and then do it again. You'll be impressed (you'll do just slightly better because you will have've done it once).

It's not really a guarantee...I'll read a book so I'll score 50 points higher.... it's just about the experience and how much you are willing to learn from it....but it won't hurt....so just do it! ;)
