Will sports help me get into these schools ?

I am looking to get into top tier schools such as UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, and some Ivy leagues such as Columbia, Duke, or Dartmouth.

I am currently a high school sophomore in second semester. I would like to use athletics to help me get into these colleges.I also am in two varsity sports, track and cross country. I have been doing varsity track since freshman year. However, i only did cross country this year(sophomore).

Times so far:
800 m (2:30) i think i can get 2:20 by senior year
1600 m(5:20) i think i can get 5:00 by senior year

My school doesn’t use weighted grades. My freshman year, i got a 3.833 gpa both semesters. This year i took AP physics and pre calculus and the other classes most sophomores take. I got a 3.5 gpa first semester. However, i learned from my mistakes and this year I am confident that i can get a 4.0 this current semester (unweighted). I plan to take 3 AP classes my junior and senior year each. This would mean i took 7 AP classes total. I hope my unweighted gpa at the end of my junior year of high school will be about 3.83. I also did decent on my PSAT 1380/1520 without studying and I think i can get it to at least 1450 with some work. I also think i can get a high SAT score.

As far as extra curriculars I am in speech and debate which i have been doing since middle school. I am also vice president of a club I helped to start this year. My club has raised money and is currently sponsoring 10 children in third world countries. I am also an officer for a science and tech club.

With all of this background info how would i look when applying to college specifically top tier schools. Would sports help me get in to these schools?

You are a female correct? These current times won’t crack the Ivy or Ivy-like recruiting standards, but would just meet the standards at the top D3 LAC’s. If you can get to your goal times, the options will open up a lot. Good luck!

@123Kyra You need 2:04 - 2:15 for women’s D1 standards. The Ivy League uses an Academic Index (AI) scoring system for their recruits. A minimum of 176 AI can get into an Ivy. Recruited student athletes have a 30% chance of admission if you have a good AI score. Each team has a certain amount of spots held for admissions over non recruited athletes. Keep working hard to get your time down. You don’t even need to have a 4.0 gpa as long as you have strong test scores and great time.
