Asking for a friend…parents had an ugly divorce and the daughter has nothing to do with her father. The girl is applying to Stanford and mother believes they will only consider her income. I’m not so sure about this since there are a lot of kids with divorced parents and someone has to foot the bill. My understanding is that schools like Vanderbilt and University of Puget Sound will look ONLY at custodial parent’s income. But is this the case for Stanford?
She needs to look at the website for info based on income, etc.

“In cases of separation or divorce, we expect both parents to participate in paying for your education. We will compute separate contributions for your custodial and non-custodial parents.”
There’s a non-custodial parent waiver petition form, but these generally require backup proofs and the waiver is at the U’s discretion.
