UC family data/ divorced parent's income?

hoping to get fee waiver (lower income single parent) but it looks like they want the income of BOTH parents under "family income and size"?? I am custodial parent and head of household and contribute more than 50 % to student's support..
can I just put my income or do I have to add the other parent's? I don't even really know what dad's income is...

just bumping it

You have to list both incomes even if you are the custodial parent. If the father is truly absent most schools require some sort of affadavit from the court stating that the father cannot be found and therefore, cannot contribute. If you receive any sort of child support/alimony you are screwed. When it comes to the actual financial aid forms the non-custodial parent must complete the non-custodial parent profile.

this just seems weird because I thought the FAFSA used by the UCs was only filled out by the custodial parent...and again, how would I even know the other parents income??? yes he does pay support which ends in March when d turns 18..
I know the PROFILE has Non custodial parent form, but I don't think the FAFSA goes into non custodial finances
can anyone confirm what daviban is saying??

The FAFSA does ask only for the income of the parent with whom the student lived the majority of the year, however, most colleges request a supplement for the non-custodial parent. You do not need to know the other parents income, they receive their own PIN number. You cannot see each others income. The majority of colleges believe that college costs are the responsibility of both parents and want to know if a court order is in place. Many divorce agreements address college costs. My agreement from 1989 states that the father has to pay 50% of undergrad fees. The best advice I can give you is to call the Financial Aid offices at the schools your child is applying to and ask what they require of divorced/separated/never married parents.

YOur lawyer was better than my lawyer! My kids were 6 and 4 when we divorced, and I didn't think about getting anything in place for college, unfortunately.
Thanks for the info...
I still don't understand how to fill out the UC form though, its on the online app, not on the FAFSa...it asks for one figure called "family income"...it just seems odd that they would expect me to get his income and add it to mine and report it in this box...

My parents are divorced, and i am under my mother's custody. The divorce decision states that my father has to pay 15% of his salary as child support until i finish my education. He has declared me as financially dependent of him on his tax returns, and his 15% means more than my mother whole salary, thus he provides more than 50% of the money spent on me. I asked UCAP about how i should complete the income fields and they said:
"You do not need to report the 15% of your father's income. Just your mother's gross income.
In the family size field you only report the parents that claim you on their tax returns and any siblings that live with you."
