Will the credit earned from the AP Bio exam get me out of gen ed requirements in college?

I’m will most likely be doing a double major in accounting and Chinese (after taking four years of Chinese in high school) at an average college like UT Austin (average for my high school) and haven’t been able to see if taking the AP Bio exam (let’s assume I do well) could get me out of gen ed requirements. Should I try to self-study AP Bio to get out of pesky gen ed requirements in college (no room in my schedule)? Also, could self-studying APES or AP psychology (assuming I do well) help with science or humanities gen ed requirements in college? Thanks!

If you know where you’re going to go look at their specific requirements as to what will transfer as a gened. For example, I took APES and got a 5 but my college does not consider it a science, but a social science. Since I also had AP psych and needed only 1 social science gened APES was a complete waste. Every school is different so if you don’t know where you’re going g it’s a crapshoot.

Depends upon each colleges AP policy. Very easy to lookup if you Google AP Policy for Name of College.

Another reason to check with each college your are interested in for their requirements: some won’t give college credit for a self-studied AP exam score but will require that you took the course in high school. I am a former AP Biology teacher and on several occasions I had to send a student’s lab work to their college as proof that their high school AP course did college level labs before they were given credit.
