I am applying as a transfer student to Penn for the fall of my sophomore year and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if these hooks might help me in the admission process. Thanks!

Mom and Dad both attended Penn so I guess that makes me a Double Legacy

My dad used to work for Penn for about 12 years but no longer does.

My mom currently has a part time job at Penn.

I live in West philadelphia

All throughout elementary school and middle school I attended the Penn Alexander School that is partnered with Penn.

Yes, it does add some weight to your application.

We still need to know a few things.

Did you apply as a high school senior? What happened? (Legacy helps only for ED. I think only an applicant for the freshman class gets it.)

Where are you in school now? How have you done?

Are you a candidate for financial aid? (Penn needs enough students eligible for a mayor’s scholarship. Your mother’s position doesn’t give you a faculty/staff scholarship.)

What do you want to study? (Choose something relatively unusual. You always can change it.)

Your biggest advantage is your vast knowledge of the University. Mention some offbeat activities or experiences you know about and want to pursue.

Good luck from a neighbor and alum from the Stone Age

Hi thanks for responding!

I did not apply to penn previously

my High school GPA was 3.79 on a 4.2 scale. I attended Central High School of Philadelphia which is a very competitive school. Penn knows about it and I would say that Central may be a feeder school for penn.

I am now attending Temple University. I am a freshman
my GPA is 3.85 on a 4.0 scale.

I am applying to penn for the Biological Basis of Behavior program. I don’t think this is an unusual major, i don’t know, but I would like to apply for this because I have a lot I can talk about in my essay for it.

oh and I am not a candidate for Financial aid
and my ACT score is about 28-29 (I know it’s kinda low) :(

and yeah I heard that about the legacy help but I’m sure it won’t hurt.

Central is a good high school. Temple is OK, and not having applied before is an advantage, I think (no history of rejection).

BBB is a wonderful program, but so many applicants want to do it or something related to it, and there’s simply a limit to available space and faculty. Admissions office claims your intended major makes no difference, but at some point there has to be a limit because of resources.

Good luck!
