Transferring to University of Pennsylvania

Hey everyone... I really want to go to Penn and was wondering if anyone could tell me my chances of getting in.

I had a GPA of 3.67 for my freshman year at SUNY New Paltz. I am currently a sophmore. Assuming that my GPA stays within the same range after this semester (fall '07), what do you think my chances are. Also something to note, my dad graduated from Wharton at Penn and I wondering if anyone has personal knowledge of how much legacy boosts your chances.

also, I was wondering how much high school grades weigh in if i am now a sophmore in college

A 3.67 is not competitive for transferring into the ivy league especially considering your a sophomore who has followed a general liberal arts curriculum and have just started taking more difficult major-related courses. College GPA>HS GPA, but HS still plays quite a role. Legacy helps in the ivy league but not as much as you think it does. If your odds of admission were to be rated on a scale of 1-10, think of legacy as adding a .4 to that rating; not dismal but certainly not substantial.

I apologize for being so blunt but I'm doing you a favor by forcing you to look at the harsh reality: a 3.6 from a Suny will not get you into Wharton.

Regardless, best of luck in your transferring pursuits.
