Hi!

I have a dilemma.

On my part 1 application, I wrote that I intended to major in English. After a bit of soul-searching, I've decided that I want to major in Mathematics, since I'm much better at math, I like it more, and I'm a stronger math-major candidate than english-major candidate.

Should I email them with my decision to change my prospective major? Would they even notice? Is there a certain email address I should send it to?(I've tried to find one and I can't)

Thanks and happy saturday.

You don't apply to a particular major. The major you list is just what you're interested in. Do nothing.

I know you don't apply to a particular major... I was just wondering if they'd look at my app and say, "this person wants to major in English? what a joke," something they probably wouldn't say if math was my prospective major.

If you've got some crazy awards from Mathlete competitions, taught math to underpriviliged inner-city kids, have purple-patch recs from math teachers, etc. and conversely have sub-par english SATs or your essay sucks, maybe you should inform them of this.

If you've seriously given the impression of someone more inclined towards math, then it couldn't hurt to demonstrate that you want to pursue math in college.

I made some errors on an app to Harvard and they allowed me to fix them - but that was also before the due date for materials. ... I don't know what Columbia's policy is...

Good Luck! (p.s. DON'T WORRY ABOUT SILLY THINGS LIKE THIS!! It won't make or break you.)

The end.

Agree with fairlyconfident. Unless it doesn't make sense that you're inclined toward liberal arts, it's not an "error" and won't make a difference.
