I just finished my first semester of sophomore year, and I had A’s in all of my classes (AP History, Biology, Geometry, English, Spanish 2) but i finished with a B in Journalism. Also during my freshman year I also had all A’s, except a B during first semester PE.
I know that sophomore grades really count, so will this B hurt my chances of getting into good colleges? (UC Berkeley, UCLA)
Also, is my course selection for sophomore year bad or weak, and could that hurt me?
How does one get a B in PE? Anyhow thats beside the point.
No it won’t hurt your chances in the long run, just get A’s in all your other classes nail your test scores and you should be fine. Also note that alot of well-qualified applicants have been rejected from UCB and UCLA.
WIth all A’s, one B, and only one honors/AP course, your weighted GPA is a 4.0 which is around or even slightly below the averages for UCD, UCI, and UCSB. You really need to take a lot more honors/AP in junior year and get straight A’s if you want to aim for UCB (4.4 avg) and UCLA (4.3 avg).
