<p>Depends. In what context did he/she write this letter? Does he know you personally for your achievements (i.e. has he/she worked with you in any of that research that you have done)?</p>

<p>i think my recommender who was my mentor, told him of my accomplishments. my recommender was an alumnus and told the guy about me and my research interests</p>
