Let's say I went to "University X" and got HORRIBLE grades... so now I dropped out, and am applying to "University Q" ....would they know I went to "University X" even if I don't provide them with any information at all about my past academic history?

Yes, most likely they will eventually know. Colleges have to get complete transcripts from all your other colleges in order to remain accredited. If you don’t provide this info to them in your application, you will be told to provide it before you matriculate. If you withhhold it (not a good idea) and they find out (likely - there are audits of these things), they are likely to take strong disciplinary action up to and including expulsion.

well, my problem is… i went to a Community College in NY, moved to CA, went to another Community college - flunked out. A year later, tried again (at a difference CC) and did AWESOME! So I got accepted to a Uni. - flunked out. So now i’m BACK at the CC, doing awesome again… but im worried that my 2 previous fall-outs with the Uni and the CC will forever damage my record no matter how well I do this time around at the CC.

I had emotional breakdowns, and severe family emergencies both times (one time - dad had heart attack, another time, i had a nervous breakdown)

None of us can fully erase our past. All we can do is keep plugging away to try to do better in the future. You need to continue to do your best from here forward. There are opportunities that await you and doors that will be open to you.

Being truthful about your past is going to be a much better thing than to have the school you apply to find out about it here:

Yes, they will see your transcripts. The school has your social security number for payment/tuition purposes. When they search your social to see what loans you have had in the past, all the education institutions you ever took a class at will pop up (along with your grades). You would be better off to address to issues and be upfront with the issues you had and why you flunked out. I would say you really need to think about WHY you flunked out and address those issues. Changing schools does not fix your problems.
