I looked on UTD's web site, but couldn't find any info.

Yes

Thank you.
What exactly does “3 SCH free electives” mean?

sch = semester credit hours

A 3 on the history AP places you out of History 1301 while a 4 or 5 on the AP test places you out of History 1301 and 1302 (6 hours total).

The 3 SCH free elective means that you gain a total of three hours (an elective credit) but it doesn’t replace a required course.

For example, you couldn’t use the 3 SCH free elective in place of the required history credits and so on.

Does that make sense?

in college, you have to take a certain number of free electives. a 3 on this AP exam gives u 3 credit hours towards that requirement

Thanks for helping me out guys. One more question - Is there a cap on how many credit hours you can earn from AP tests? Because this year I’m planning on taking 3-6 exams and hopefully getting 4-5 scores on all of them.
I made 3s on Biology and U.S. History last year, and this year I’m taking U.S. Gov, Calculus ab+bc (the two tests in one), English Lit, maybe Computer Science and possibly Macro/Microeconomics (though maybe not since it isn’t a course requirement for me apparently).

I don’t think there is a limit … but I’m not 100% certain. My child earned 30 credit hours through AP and CLEP tests - if that helps you any.

Depending on your major, you may not want to apply all your AP credits. I know that many universities (not just UTD) recommend retaking the class if it’s a foundation class in your major rather than counting the AP credit. For example, perhaps you should seriously consider retaking bio if you’re pre-med rather than applying the 3 earned on a bio AP taken junior year in high school. And so on. Courses such as history, U.S. government, English Lit tend to be easy to apply the AP credit and move on.

Does UTD take Dual Credit?

Yes.

filler

Will UTD award credit for a 3 on the AP Lit/Comp exam?

you just get 3 hrs of credit. no credit for the actual rhet 1302 course

Say i’m majoring in biology, maybe chemistry …do you guys reccommend I take AP Econ to get rid of the credit that has nothing to do with a bio/chem major or will I not need to take it anyways because of the major.

take the credit for econ
