<p>I'm writing my "Why Penn" essay, and I can't decide whether to use will or would... for example:
I know Penn will/would be able to help me...</p>
<p>Will is more natural for me, but I'm not sure if it sounds cocky, like I'm sure I'll get in... (which I'm not).</p>
<p>I think would is better... but why don't you try writing about the college itself... like "Penn has the best professors blah blah blah" and tie it into how you want a good education. I know that's corny but it's just an example.</p>
