I'm wondering if students or families are going to choose a public university or college this year or a private one?

Some say the economy and parents' portfolios have rebounded a bit and they may not be as worried about the cost of college as families were last year. So faced with the affordable public option or the costlier private one, what will you or your family choose THIS year?

Is the Public University high(er) on your list this year? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this?

Also have the private schools who accepted you offered YOU significant scholarships yet? How much?

All of the US schools I applied to are private. All of the UK schools I applied to are public (every school in the UK, but one, is public). Since I wouldn’t be paying the domestic student price for the UK schools, everywhere will be the same high price for me.

My parents think it unfair to make the economy part of my decision when my sister went to the most expensive school to which she was accepted.
I have my FA package from UChicago and MIT so far, and a merit scholarship from UChicago. Since we have two students in college, we get quite a bit of FA.

^Unfortunately, fairness is a luxury most people don’t have right now. The vast majority of the people I know are going to Carolina for financial reasons, or comparable privates with incredible merit aid.
