Will you guys help me find some safeties/matches?

Hey guys! I'm going to be a senior in the fall and I need help finding a maybe like, 3 or 4 safety and/or match schools to apply to. I've been searching around, but I don't really know what qualifies as a safety in my case. I know no school can truly be a "safety", but I'm hoping to find a few that I have a decent chance of getting into other than my own state school.

Here are some quick stats about me:
*Sex: Female
*Race: Black
*GPA: ~3.8 UW and ~4.2 W
*SAT 1: CR 710/M 640/W 800 (Math.. yikes! I may or may not retake it.. depends on my ACT score) 2150 Composite
*Taking the ACT on the 9th
*Intended Major: Double - International Relations/History with a minor in a language (French or Arabic)

I really don't feel like listing all of my ECs.

I'm planning on applying to:
Georgetown
JHU
Tufts
Boston College
Amherst
University of Rochester
UGA (my state school)

With the exception of a couple on this list, I tried to choose medium-sized schools with strong IR and Political Science departments. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

BU is a safety
USC is a match

What can your family afford? American would be a safety or Match.

The least selective of these top 10 are GW and American.

Thank you so much for the suggestions thus far, guys!!

Take a look at st andrews in scotland

I think you’d people able to get into GW no problem, possible merit and honors too!

Look at Northeastern and Fordham

Anyway, I think you’d be a serious candidate for any of the schools, but I’d add another one or two in that are a bit easier to get into. I think that Dickinson College in PA would be good in your areas of interest. And maybe GW is a good one to add (I see Georgetown, not GW on the list). You would probably get a lot of merit aid from Fordham which is mentioned in the above post.

Okay so it seems as though Fordham and GW will be worth applying to. I’ll definitely do some more research on them!! The only thing that bothers me is that say I don’t get into Georgetown and I end up at GW, I’ll be so bitter about it since Georgetown is my top choice hahaha! Thanks again!

Maybe look at UMD College Park, James Madison as potential “likely/ safety” schools, and UVA (not a safety, but could be good match potential)… although UVA and JMU are more rural in terms of location than most of the others on your list.

How about Middlebury?

^not really a safety/match

I’d be careful when applying to GW, they care very much about interest so be sure to ace the essays and apply to their honors program. A friend got waitlisted @ GW for probably lackluster essays and possibly disinterest. Which made getting waitlist even more bittering to him, since he thought he was entitled to being accepted. Ah well! Gtown and GW are both great schools for IR.

Thank you for the advice! I feel like that would be a HUGE issue in the application process; however, I’m trying to construct a list in which I love each school in one way or another. I really want all of my applications (as far as essays/recs/ecs go) to show that I’m interested in each school (because I am!) and to convey the passion I have for International Relations/Politics.

Is american university on your list? Even though its below gtown and some consider it below gwu (i do at least), its a good IR school and it is in DC. You will definitely get into that!

I’ve not considered American University, however I will be in DC later this summer and will probably tour it and George Washington.

Bump… Any other suggestions?
