One of the agreements of applying ED is that, if you are accepted, you will withdraw all of your other applications and not submit any more for RD. Does the ED school actually check to make sure this rule is followed? What would be the consequences of them finding out that you later applied RD to another school (even if you aren’t planning on attending), and does anyone have any examples of this situation actually happening?
Why would you bother to apply to another school after you are admitted to an ED school with sufficient financial aid and scholarships?
You run the risk of having your ED rescinded. I know someone who received an email from one of the RD apps she submitted saying that they were aware that she had received an ED acceptance. The RD school said that they would communicate with the ED school if the applicant did not rescind her RD app.
"Does the ED school actually check to make sure this rule is followed? "
they will check with your HS counselor to make sure of it.
Remember- your HS has their credibility on the line for any future applicants from your school.
"What would be the consequences of them finding out that you later applied RD to another school (even if you aren’t planning on attending), and does anyone have any examples of this situation actually happening? "
your acceptance would be rescinded.
so dont even THINK about trying to apply elsewhere RD.
If you have changed your mind about applying ED you can notify the school to move you file to the RD pile.
