William And Mary Early Decision for Fall 2022 Admission

W&M’s Fall 2021 Common Data Set has been posted! It looks like ED acceptance was close to 50% last year (581 of 1194). Of course no differentiation between In-state and OOS.

Our regional admissions representative was unassigned at the beginning of the fall. Then, they finally assigned a new rep, and D22 did communicate with her regarding the virtual STEM panels, as she also did a virtual visit to our school. D22 checked the portal yesterday, and the woman she spoke with (and who was listed on the portal as her rep) was changed and a generic admissions rep was named (email for main admissions office). On the main admissions website, our region is again not assigned and listed as “in transition”. D22 is freaking out that somehow her application will get lost in the sauce. Anyone else in this boat?

I just looked at the website. Our region is one of three that has a picture of a squirrel and says “in transition.” As if there aren’t enough things to stress over. Ughh

The AO assigned to our state over the summer has been promoted, so we have an “in transition” notice too. However, our original AO indicated TWO of the admissions team would review each application. I suspect, but can’t verify, they keep records of students interactions with the school and actually “track demonstrated interest” in some way, just as their Common Data Set indicates they do. Some schools contract out a pre-read or organization of the applications. Not sure if W&M does this or not.

So, seems like Friday, 12/3 is a good guess. Possibly Monday 12/6. They post an IG the day of that ED will be released at 5, ET. Kid will get an email and decision in their portal. So check IG Mid afternoon Friday.

Good luck to all. D22 is 4.0W (had 2 B- s in 10th when schools closed and she didn’t get outstanding work in), 34 ACT, 10 APs, but all in humanities. In state, but from NOVA. Applying for IR and foreign languages. It’s going to be a squeaker.

What is an IG?

Instagram. Lol. Hoping they release decisions Friday. We are on pins and needles in my household.

Does anyone want to email admission and ask when results will come out?

My DD is in state for W&M. I happen to work at the high school she attends. Seems that students who apply to W&M also seem to apply to University of Vermont for an out of state school. Those we know who did not get in to W&M and ended up at UVM LOVE IT. Also, UVM seems to be better about giving merit money. My DD applied to both schools (along with a few other in state schools and UMass Amherst as her other out of state). She is looking to major in Biology and Enviromental Studies.

Interesting. My DD’s first choice is W&M but she discovered UVM and it also looks like it would be a great fit. So this is good to know. We made a list of second choices to make a potential rejection from W&M not so painful.

what do you all think the chances are that decisions come out tomorrow?

I have been reading about the significant increase of applications for public universities this year (UVA, UGA, GT) in EA. If that is true for ED as well, then we can assume more applications might equal the need for more time to review them…especially if they are down a few AOs… A release next week could give them more time. Just my 2 cents.

I was just looking at the ED thread from last year and one person said that they emailed admissions and they told them when decisions would likely come out. Has anyone emailed them per chance? Fingers crossed decisions come out tomorrow!!

My DD said most of her friends applying to UVA applied ED and a good majority ED to W&M also. She doesn’t know anyone who did EA to UVA and only 2 people who are doing RD to William and Mary (and that was due to financial concerns and wanting to know merit money first). Kids seem to be upping their game when it comes to ED. When we toured VTech, the admission counselor told everyone in the room to apply ED or EA, that they consider RD to be “space available”. Since EA isn’t an option for W&M, I bet they are seeing an increase in ED1 applications.

You can’t apply ED to both UVA and WM. But it would be nice if WM said something. UVA has released their #s at least.

Sorry my verbiage was off - I know you can’t apply ED to 1 schools. I meant that her friends apply to UVA did ED and OTHER friends applying to W&M did ED. The UVA ED kids don’t have W&M on their list and vice versa (unless they are denied ED, then some may apply to W&M as a back up for the Jan 1 date).
