William and Mary... Party Scene?

I'm sure this question has been asked several times before, but no past threads have really answered my questions.

I'm sure that there is partying to take part in for those who look for it, with drinking and what not... But how plentiful are these parties, and how 'crazy' do they tend to get? I, for one, like to have a good time this way on the weekends.

It is not that I want to go to a party school, WM is certainly not that, but I just would like some input on what type of things go on in WM social life.

oh, and I GOT IN!

Just what I’ve heard as a parent, but never a problem finding a party. Yes, some parties get crazy. Daughter has been to grit wrestling party each year. She’d kill me if I disclosed anything else!

people do not set couches on fire and flip over police cars, if that is what you are asking.

there is plenty of drinking to be had on and near campus. The frats and houses are popular. People host parties in Ludwell and Randolph Complex all the time.

I was going to say W&M is not an Animal House scene, but after the “grit wrestling” comment…Maybe its time for grad school :)

If she can wrestle in grits AND pull a 4.0, it’s fine with me! Well rounded education!

Haha, I’m sure I know your daughter, grits wrestling is a pretty fun time :-)

There’s different “scenes”; a lot of people go to frat parties which in my opinion tend to suck (picture a bunch of awkward people drinking lite beer in a tiny room, yeah, not fun) but each organization generally holds parties of some kind. If you rush a Greek organization you will definitely have parties every weekend, but it comes with the price of dues and being committed to stuff you might not always want to do.

It all comes down to knowing people, if you make friends you will always have something to do on weekends. I’ve been to some pretty intense parties. Nothing really crazy happens, but a drunken good time is had by all.

W&M is about balance. There are certainly parties of varying sorts that are fun without often getting out of hand. W&M is a place that students can be smart and have fun without doing one in excess of the other.

W&M also does not have riots like a certain school in our athletic conference

@ soccerguy…especially not during admitted student’s weekend!

I’ve heard mixed responses; but here’s my question… I don’t drink; but i love parties, and don’t care about whether others drink or not; and enjoy the people, the music…stuff like that. Can you still have fun at the WM parties or not?

Absolutely. Plenty of people go to parties completely sober (and then everyone else thanks you for walking them home the next day). Different groups on campus have different habits too, with some being more sober than others.
