I’m OOS and interviewed, and was waitlisted. It was probably an advantage considering my ACT of 30 wasn’t as high as most of the other people on here who said they were waitlisted or admitted.
DS was admitted - OOS. 1470 SAT, Class Pres., Athlete, many activities & good LORs. He attended an info session and tour at the school.
My oos son who was admitted has never even visited the school yet. Can’t make admitted students day either. Will try and get down there soon. Does anyone when finical aid or scholarships are announced?

Will Merit and Financial Aid information be delivered at same time? Via email? Or, snail mail?
When do we get the “big envelope” in the mail?
My daughter received her financial aid notification yesterday. As expected, it merely was the available loan. I already had received a similar notification for my other daughter who is a sophomore at W&M.
@AWonderfulLife Are you OOS? Where are you geographically? We are patiently waiting for financial award letter from W & M, but haven’t received anything yet. They did send us letter about Scholar Award, but nothing specific. Also there is no information on established Fees on their website for 2018-2019 year yet, instead it says:
*The Board of Visitors will approve fees, room and board in April, 2018.
Is your financial letter detailing all awards and fees? Please help!
We are in-state (Northern VA). She received an E-mail on 03/26 with a subject line “William & Mary Financial Aid Award”. She had to set up a user name and follow the directions to the information. Perhaps, they sent out the easy, non-qualifiers first.
D accepted instate. No financial aid just $5500 loan. She will be going to accepted student days for Virginia Tech, University of Virginia and William and Mary. We will be paying full freight no matter where she goes. I know William and Mary is her top choice, but it’s around $35,000, UVA around $30000 and Tech about $22,000. Not sure William and Mary is worth the difference. Any thoughts? BTW she did get into Tech honors.
@wineindoubt We have the exact same situation and plans for my son to visit each school. Will be interested to read any feedback on your question. W&M does freeze tuition for all four years, so the cost difference will be a little lower if you expect an average tuition increase of 3% each year from UVA and VT.
@wineindoubt As indicated, W&M does freeze tuition for 4 years, so cost difference with UVA is probably less significant. VT would be less. All other things being equal, I would take W&M or UVA over Tech honors, but that is just me. Tech’s biggest strength is engineering. It sounds like a good idea to go to accepted student days to reconfirm.
I believe when my oldest started UVA you could also choose to freeze the tuition rate for the 4 years.
Did anyone who received financial aid get their notification yet?
Yes. DC received an email notification from “finaid@wm.edu” on 3/26 with instructions on how to log into the portal.
Any international students here received any scholarship with their snail mail?
@baxter my D18 rec’d an email that her FinAid award was available on her portal. Sadly it isn’t anywhere close to our other offers from both private and public schools (Vandy, UVa,URichmond and Furman). We had to tell her she would have to remove WM&Mary from consideration unless she manages to find $35K in scholarships in the next three weeks! She has applied to about 30 outside scholarships so you know if she won at least 2/3 of them… it could happen. Good luck to all who were accepted and are able to attend! Such a fabulous school!
