Any opinions on these schools. My daughter was accepted at both and we haven't had a chance to visit.

The public and private mirror images of one another. If you’re from VA, W&M will be hard to turn down.

What does that mean? I’m interested too.

They’re each a picturesque, small major university with a strong residential component, a distinctive liberal arts emphasis, a nice D-I athletic program. Old Salem is even the NC counterpart of Williamsburg (on maybe a 1:100 scale). I’m sure you’ll be impressed at both campuses.

The academics at William and Mary tend to be a bit more hyperactive and intense from what I have observed from students at both campuses. William and Mary is on a par with WashU St.Louis for hyper campus. Wake is a bit more relaxed. They work hard, but also party hard. Wake is Division 1 BCS in sports, William and Mary is FCS in football. Not many know this but William and Mary is harder to get into than UVa. If you are instate Virginia, the state tuition at William and Mary is very hard to turn down. Wake draws more kids from further away so its more geographically diverse.

Wow- two great choices. Youre going to have to visit both and make the gut call. W&M did beat Wake in hoops last year. Agree that it would be tough to turn down W&M tuition if you are on the fence.

In State UVA is much harder to get in to. W and M has the rep of being a school just for quirky intellectuals.

My son was denied by UVA but got into W&M. We visited W&M last week and liked it a lot more than we thought b/c of rumors. We both thought it was more diverse. It was quiet, but small schools aren’t going to have the energy as large schools so that’s just personal preference.

We both also felt that the feeling on campus was very different between Wake and W&M. You really have to visit.

^^Statistically, W&M has been the toughest admit in VA for years. Very close to Washington & Lee who has gotten tougher since women were allowed. There are always anomalies but overall W&M is ahead.

D got accepted to both and even though the tuition is lower at W&M more financial aid from Holy Cross. We live in MA so Holy Cross geographically is easier and she can get home whenever she wants. I worry about being so far away and feeling “trapped” that she’s unable to come home except at Christmas and end of school year.

Anyone have any opinions on how these two schools compare and about not being able to get home whenever you want.

She really wants W&M but I know I can’t manage the tuition without lots of loans.

We were going to drive down for Admitted Students Day, but I’m thinking what if she absolutely falls in love with the school and it’s an impossibility will she just resent not being able to go.

Is financial aid ever increased. My income/expenses haven’t changed, but D has 3 younger sisters and I have to think about them too. l am a single mom by the way so there is only one income.
