Williams and Middlebury Gay Friendliness?

<p>I know that schools like Wesleyan and Vassar have large gay populations and are really accepting, but I really like the feel of Williams and Middlebury. Between the two, can anyone tell me which has a larger gay population and which one is overall gay friendlier (mainly in terms of the students, most administrations, I know, are very pro-gay).</p>

<p>I’m not sure you’ll find the statistics that you’re looking for here. Few (if any) schools keep data on the number of gay students. You’ll have to make do with anecdotal information. There have been some openly gay Midd students posting here in the past, so hopefully they can chime in.</p>

<p>Williams has a fairly large and active Queer Student Union that works to promote campus policies to make the school more LGBTQ-friendly. In recent years the QSU has had many successes: QSU brought on a campus administrative staff person, Justin Adkins, to work on Gender, Sexuality, and Activism activities, the QSU helped to establish the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, and the QSU helped to change campus policy to allow for gender-neutral housing. There are also lots of gay students who do not participate in the QSU-related activities and instead opt to participate in other campus activities- ranging from acapella to sports to dance to to religious and political groups and College Council. I would say that Williams has a large gay community, but queer life is not a dominant social sphere on campus (like at Brown, Wesleyan, or Vassar per se).</p>
