Williams-Oxford Exchange Program

Hey ppl! I heard that there's an Oxford exchange program at Williams. Do you get to exchange in junior year? And do ppl get to permanently transfer to Oxford if they do well during the year? Thanks for answering my question!

It's not really an "exchange program", per se. Students who are interested in the Oxford program will apply during the winter of their sophomore year. Those who are accepted will spend their entire junior year at Oxford, enrolling in Oxford tutorials and living in a Williams-owned housing complex. However, to the best of my knowledge, it is not possible for Williams students to permanently transfer to Oxford. After the junior year ends, students return to Williams in their senior year.

I think that there are about 25 slots each year. I know there is great demand for them. Some of the best features of the Oxford program have been brought home and instilled in the curriculum through Williams's signature tutorial program, so even those students who don't get a slot can benefit greatly from the Oxford program's offshoots by taking advantage of the tutorial offerings. Check out the tutorials through the college website.

Students are regarded by Oxford as being actual Exeter students, which allows them to be Blues (that is, on the equivalent of varsity teams) and otherwise represent Oxford. That's not the case with a lot of "exchange" programs, apparently. It is, however, a one-year deal, not a launching ground for transfer.

There's a fair amount of information about the program on the Williams website. If you use the site's search engine, you'll find even more.
