@TheGreyKing Thanks for your advice. For clarification, I am debating between one of the following: Williams OR Carleton, and then comparing it to the smaller, free school
I agree with @TheGreyKing. Williams is a lovely place. My son is freshman there from a good public HS and is building great friendships and enjoying the course work. Yes, Williamstown is small, but it is quaint and surprisingly adequate for its size. If you are going to be cold in the winter, why not be surrounded by beautiful mountains?
for the same/similar price, I’d take a top private any day. Of course, moving from CA to the midwest/east takes more than a typical financial aid package, not to mention having to purchase winter clothes. So even with excellent finaid…
That being said, there is a yuuuuugggggeeee difference between a rural LAC and a big instate Uni. As hard as I tried, I could not get my two kids interested in Williams, or any other LAC for that matter. I guess that they wanted a college that was larger than their HS.
So, if you can scrape up the cash my recommendation is to go visit both if you can. Willams and Carleton are among the best colleges in the country, but only you can tell if either feels right.
Absent a visit, I’d vote for Williams.
Good luck.
Williams.
Williams is probably the winner by a margin here unless you really like something about Carleton!
Carleton is much closer to a big city, and for someone looking to go into medicine, remember that the Mayo Clinic is in Rochester Minnesota(one hour away), also, as well as all the Hospitals/clinics in the Twin Cities and the surrounding suburbs. You might want to ask Carleton if they have any connection besides the local one already mentioned in Northfield.
Plus, the Spam Museum. Beat that, Williams!
Thanks for your opinions, everyone. I think I’m going to end up at a match school where I received a full-ride and override the prestigious ego positive feedback.
Can you tell us what the other school is? We might have some useful feedback there.
You put a lot of thought into your decision, and now you can confidently enjoy attending your choice! Best wishes to you. Enjoy college!
@intparent I PM’d you. I’ll also PM the school name to anyone else who is curious.
@TheGreyKing Thanks for all of your advice throughout the decision making process; you were extremely helpful!
so what school did you choose @Neurotic2027?
