I am a freshman, and currently live in International Village, and my friend and I both decided that we cannot afford to live in West Village F, or any of the West Villages next year. How is Willis Hall? How does it differ from west village? Can anyone comment on the pros and cons of it? Thanks!

Willis Hall is the cheapest of the apartment style dorms and therefore is filled by upperclassman way before freshman get to choose. Last year many of my daughter’s honors freshman friends were planning on rooming in Willis and not one room was left when they got to pick their rooms (even those freshman with “good” numbers.) Most of them ended up in West Village F (which they love - and yes it is more expensive - Willis is cheaper because it is older and does not have AC in most rooms). I recommend you look at other alternatives if you don’t want WVF (and I also suggest you have lots of options - housing is very competitive and it is hard to get the place you want during the selection period).

Willis is definitely the best of the “standard” price housing. (I think it is the only standard with dishwashers.) But your chances of getting an apartment there are small. I agree - have some backup plans. I think ResLife also has tours of various dorms at some point before selection, so see if you can check out what’s available through that.

What other affordable(as in not west village prices) would y’all recommend ?

I liked the location of Loftman but wasn’t a fan of the lack of elevators (still have nightmares about move-in and move-out there haha)

As far as availability, a certain number of rooms are blocked off for freshmen becoming sophomores now that sophomores are required to live on campus. For this reason, Sophomores actually often wind up with better options than Juniors.

Really depends on your lottery number, though.
