<p>I don’t think it gives you a “leg up.” However, advising will be slightly easier for you since you’ll have an advisor in the dorm. But I don’t think you have much on any other science major.</p>
<p>WIMSE sees the same advisors as everyone else, but the older WIMSE girls serve as mentors and are so helpful when it’s time to choose classes etc. Obvious other advantages are living with others who are taking many of the same classes as you, so it’s easy and convenient to find someone to study with; living in Cawthon, which is just steps away from the late night tutoring available at Stroz; and, if you’re interested in doing undergraduate research, WIMSE has funds to pay you. Whether or not these would offer a leg up to you over other science majors would depend on your personal situation and what your alternatives are. Downsides are having to pay for the meal plan because you live in Cawthon (unless you are someone who enjoys cafeteria food in large quantity), and having to take/pay for the colloquium. The lab tours are fun but other than that it’s just busy work.</p>
