Wind Ensemble

Hello- I was wondering if anyone has been in or auditioned for the UC Berkeley Wind Ensemble before and could tell me what the live audition is like.
Which scales will I be expected to play? How many people usually audition?
Thank you!

It depends on the instrument. What do you play?

Flute (10 char)

Whoo, that involves some competition. Know all the scales and a prepared piece. There’s also sight reading, but you can just plow through that. If you have strong fundamentals, this shouldn’t even be a challenge.

Great, thank you  Yeah…flute…probably not the best decision back in 4th grade  As for scales- I’m good with my majors, but will he expect all 2 octave minors for the audition?

Hi! I also have a few questions about wind ensemble. How much music should I prepare for the audition? Do you re-audition every year? And how many alto saxophones are in the ensemble?

Thanks :)

There’s re-audition every semester. How much music should you prepare? If you have enough skills to get into district band back in the days, you’re fine.

There are 3 altos.

And minor scales?

oh yeah, minor scales. you better know your jazz scales too since Bob (our conductor) is a very accompanied jazz clarinetist.

I’m just kidding. Just know your major.

Scared me for a second! Thank you very much :)
