I got a B in a winter session class, and this brings my GPA down a little bit. Should I tell them, or just leave it as IP? I'm submitting an update about something else, so I feel like maybe I should. I mean, are they going to wonder whether I passed the class?

You are actually not required to give an update of winter or spring grades. Most people try to send updates of their winter and spring grades because they did well and raised their GPA, however, the UC’s do not consider these “updates” in the admission decision unless it was submitted with the official UC grade update that was due January 31st.

If you want to submit it, go ahead, but there is absolutely no need to do so.

I was under the impression that the UC’s do not consider winter grades…that is unless you failed or dropped the course. I don’t think it would hurt or help, but you are not required to update them with your winter grade.

That’s exactly right SMCguy. I recall reading somewhere that they simply do not consider any grades submitted after the fall semester, unless, like you said, someone fails, gets a D or drops a required course. They said something to the effect “to be fair to all applicants we do take into consideration…”
