What does one need to do to make sure a student has meals during the Winter Term? Is it included as part of the regular meal program with the fall or spring semester? If so, what happens for meals when students don't participate in the winter term or complete the winter term off-campus?

And -- can a Winter Term student join a co-op for the Winter Term only?

The regular meal programs don’t include Winter Term dining. To eat in CDS over Winter Term you have to buy meals individually, which costs something like $7 per meal.

It is possible to sign up for a co-op for Winter Term only – it’s around $200 for the month, and the deadline to sign up is December 7. You just have to walk up to the OSCA office, fill out a form, and give them a check.

Way back in the mid-80s, when I was on campus during winterterm, a bunch of friends organized our own dinner coop - we were on our own for breakfast and lunch, but for dinner we shared cooking. We were in Asia house which had a good kitchenette to use.

I think he’s thinking of something along those lines, amandakayak. I don’t know that he’s organizing anything, but he mentioned something about possibly doing a winter-term-only co-op with some friends.

Two of my years at Oberlin I cooked dinner with friends over winter term. The other two I just paid for each of my meals in the dining hall as I ate them (I student charged them to my account and paid a bill at the end of the month) because I didn’t want to pay for meals I might not use in case I went out with friends.
