does anyone have any information? it is not discussed on CC, but has some good reviews and is located about 30 minutes from Charlotte NC just across SC border. Daughter is interested. thanks.

Hey! It is TOO discussed on CC :)

I have posted a review, and have also contributed to other threads discussing Winthrop in connection with other SC, NC and VA schools. Let me search the archives and post some of the threads -- I can probably find them pretty quickly.

Bottom line thoughts: Good school, REALLY good value. Architecture is a little uninspiring, and is more or less in the middle of a city (that can be good or bad, depending on what you're looking for).

Here's some of the threads.

Also, you might want to search for posts by a student poster named "nintyfresh" -- she's going to Winthrop next September and has posted some info about the school (usually buried in other messages).

In addition to my son looking at Winthrop, my brother in law is a professor -- he loves it.

66472,
I'm pretty sure I responded in one of Iderochi's links above but will recap here. My friend's D attended Winthrop, graduated '05 with a degree in science communications. Initially Winthrop was not her first choice school but was best financial choice (IB Diploma=full tuition scholarship).
Her Mom now says Winthrop was the great for her daughter, the best choice for her after all. She ended up being very active with the student newspaper(going from writing small articles to managing editor), working in the writing center, joining a sorority(something she would never have considered in h.s.),getting an internship with a local newspaper, and spending a semester abroad (Germany).

She did well at Winthrop and was admitted to a couple of grad schools and is currently attending one in Ohio where her tuition is waived and she is working as a TA. while working toward her grad degree.

This girl who was really not excited about going to Winthrop at first will now tell you it was the best thing she ever did.
