Wise to go to grad school?

I already know my chances of getting into med school after undergrad are pretty much done-- (for lots of reasons- personal and otherwise), but I honestly want to go to medical school. And I think that one year of unfortunate circumstances shouldn't hinder my dreams.

My counselor advised that I should pursue graduate school and do well-- prove that I can excel under pressure, get some experience working possibly, then apply for medical school. I'm completely willing to do so, even though it means I lose a signifcant amount of time.

However, after talking to a few people, they've persuaded me that this is not worth my time. It'll take me somewhere between 6 to 8 years to finish medical school alone- not to mention another 4 for residency. It is my dream...but I also have to pratical in thinking about the future, I guess.

So, please. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm very torn about my future. Is it worth it?

if you really love medicine, like sit down and ask yourself, will you be happy if you don't become a doctor and not go to med school, then decide

If you realize that you just love it so much, then go to grad school and get into med school...a few extra years isn't going to kill you

If you tell yourself that it doesn't really matter what job you end up in as long as its health related or w/e...then don't do it

but also...what is your major and stuff cause that will basically tell you what you can do with your future...if you think you have to go to grad school to get a masters in order get a good job, then why not just go to med school after?

If you love medicine go for it, but if you don't truly love it then don't really medicine is a way of life and you truly have to look inside yourself to find out the truth.
