Classes I’ve taken are based around being accepted as a computer engineering major. (Intro to engineering, Electrical engineering, and computer science)

Are my extra curriculars alright or should I try to squeeze a little bit more out, and how are my grades and SAT faring?

At first, I thought your GPA was on the weaker side but after reading that you are attending the top public school in Texas, I can assume that that’s a very competitive GPA. What is your class rank? Your SAT seems on par. How many times have you taken it? If you haven’t taken it more than once, maybe you should because USC superscores!
Is that organization you founded a school club?

Overall, you have a very impressive application! Kill that essay and I can see you getting in.

I was accepted this year with a Presidential Scholarship and am excited to be attending. Good luck man!

It isn’t a school a club but I think that would aid me because it shows self effort and leadership. It is the top public school in Houston and I am first quarter.

bump, really need some help to figure out if i’m in the right spot.

You’re doing all of the right things. Only flag that immediately comes to mind is work on your GPA a bit. It’s not that it isn’t solid but that you want to have it as high as possible to give you the best shot.

Beyond that, have you taken on any leadership positions like captain of a sports team or editor of a school publication? How about your prowess in athletic and academic competitions? Those are the kind of intangibles a lot of top schools look for - evidence of your competitive streak (grit, determination, will to succeed) and your ability to lead others. All things being equal, those things tend to be important to admissions people.

The volunteering and the black belt is also really cool. It sounds like your head and your heart are in the right place. I know it’s stressful, but you’re doing a lot of the right things.

Good luck! And be sure to apply to a variety of schools - you WILL get in and you WILL go to college. ;)

Thanks so much for the opinions guys! Anyone got anything else to say?

Bumping the thread! Anymore opinions :D

The pre-AP stuff seems a little odd and really distracting. It seems like you are fluffing it up by calling everything Pre AP. “Pre AP Pre Calc”, Pre-AP World Geography, really? Every high school could say that, but they don’t… are these honors classes? Are you getting a boost to your GPA for these Pre-AP things or is it just a category? And if you are getting the honors boost then your weighted GPA should really be much higher. Does this make sense?

And are you saying the #1 public school doesn’t offer AP Biology? ("(Pre-AP is offered when AP is not available for courses)")

You seem to be on the right track, GPA and SATs are right in the middle of things, ECs are fine, decent chance of admission.

Its very common for high school students to take non-AP Biology as a high school requirement in ~9th grade prior to taking AP sciences which are much more commonly taken in 11th-12th grade (and of course to a lesser extent 10th grade) but depends on school and associated system. Also, weighted GPA doesn’t mean much at all as again schools use many different calculations and systems, and USC will recalculate unweighted GPA as necessary.

Pre-AP is an honors level class and boosts your gpa. Calling everything pre-ap means that im taking the highest level class for that course. My school is the #1 public school in Houston.

With an admit rate below 20% it is difficult to guess who will be admitted. Do the best you can and spend time on the essay. Do apply to a range of colleges and make certain your safety is both a financial and academic safety.

Have you discussed the cost of a private university with your parents? Make sure SC is an affordable option for your family.

Have you been taking German with a tutor outside of your high school? Is this a language spoken at home? I do not see foreign language on your class schedule other than German III.

I forgot to state that I had done German I freshman year and German II sophomore year, thanks for pointing that out! And I have discussed the tuition with my parents.

10char…

Bumping the post!
