I bought a PR French Without Listening review book, but I've decided to take with listening. Does anyone know if the material is very different in the two books? I'd like to be able to just go through my book and not have to go out and buy another one.

The difference is that w/listening has a CD and is (probably) more expensive. The differences in the tests is also indicated in the books. There is less of each section when you do the test w/listening, because the length of the exam is the same no matter what-- one hour. So there has to be room for the listening. If you are considering taking the test w/listening, you need to know that it is only given once a year, and that is in November, as opposed to several times for the test without listening. You also have to be certain that you bring the correct tech stuff (CD player, headphones) which they explain on the CB site.

Thanks for the headsup. Would I be able to do well on the listening section after a couple practice tests, or would I have to study separately for it?

I should think that if you listen to a few of the tests, that should do it. It's pretty hard to study for listening. If you are going to take the AP as well, it is similar, so you can combine the whole thing by just getting the AP prep book. My D took both and really only studied for the AP. I am a French teacher, btw. Bonne chance!

Oh alright. Thanks a lot for the pointers. One last question though: Is there a huge gap in difficulty between the AP and the SATII or is it worth going for both? I still have to study for 2 other SATIIs and the SATI, but if it's not going to require a huge load of time, I think I'll go for both.

I thought the SATII was much, much simpler than the AP exam.
I mean if you feel you're up to it, be my guest,
But just know that you'll have to do a lot of AP specific preparation.
