What are the main differences between Wofford and Elon? Which one is preppier, and has a stronger Greek system?
Thanks!
I applied to both colleges and went on to attend Wofford. From my perspective, Elon’s student body is more liberal and northern in terms of overall composition. On the other hand, Wofford is more southern and conservative. I think of Wofford as a school that is known more for its traditions whereas Elon has changed dramatically in the past 25 years and thus, may not have the same sense of tradition. I think both campuses have a student body that gives off a preppy vibe. At Elon, 35% of the student body is involved in greek life whereas at Wofford 50% of the student body is involved in Greek Life. Part of that probably results from the major difference in school size. I would suggest visiting both campuses to get a feel for these two things.

Thanks for the response. I am also seriously considering Sewanee: The University of the South. Do you know anything about Sewnaee? If so, what would you say are the differences etween Wofford and Sewnaee?(They seem to be very similar)
Wofford and Sewanee have many similarities, but Wofford is more regional. It draws a large percentage of students from SC and nearby states. Sewanee and Elon have more geographical diversity. My D thought Wofford had a bit of a HS feel compared to Sewanee and Elon. But I would keep Wofford on your list. It’s a solid school.
Among those three: Sewanee has a more intellectual vibe than Elon or Wofford. Sewanee and Wofford have more of a true LAC feel than Elon. Elon and Sewanee have prettier campuses than Wofford. Elon has a greater variety of majors. All three have a high percentage of Greeks, but Sewanee’s Greek system, especially the sororities, is not typical/traditional. Each school has its own vibe that is hard to explain. Definitely visit all three.
Wofford is definitely the more southern school, mostly in student composition and likely in greek life as well. Elon has a strong greek system but students are typically from the north. I would also say that Elon has the stronger national reputation, just given college rankings and the diverse stretch that the students come from (MA, CT, NY, CA, TX) all very popular there.
