Women at CMU

I know that only about 40% of CMU population is women...therefore, do women have a better chance at making it into the MCS or CIT, or any of the programs for that matter? and if so, which program is "easier" to get into, and are women often selected over men in the admissions process due to the want to balance the genders at CMU?
Any answer is appreciated, thanks!

this is true for many programs but not all - not sure about MCS or Tepper but for CIT and SCS there is a strong effort to recruit more women (google women@scs) - just like just about every engineering school in the country. Still very competitive of course.

The difference between average SAT score of men and women admitted to SCS is less than 1%.

for SCS admissions though you could be a 1600 and get rejected, so many more factors are there

plus with the reputation of SCS there are so many highly qualified men and women applying that they can make it 50/50 with all "superstar" students - however if you have a guy and a girl applying to SCS with identical scores/gpa/experience/etc the girl might stand a better chance

either way if you are applying don't expect any "edge" to get you in because you might find that it really isn't that big a factor with the increasing applicant pool size and such
