Any recommendations. Preferably small schools, but open to any.

+++if they offer large fellowships that cover most tuition.

This is for my friend. She's interested in pursuing a masters, and told me to ask on behalf of her. SHe also mentioned to ask about possibilities of maybe joint masters/phd programs.

btw she has about a 3.5 from Dickinson college

Generally speaking you'll find that only the larger universities will have graduate programs in "studies" fields. That said, take a look at Berkeley, Minnesota & Maryland. In looking around I was rather surprised to see that Wisconsin only had a certificate program. I have heard that there are only 5 or 6 schools in the US with actual graduate programs in Women's Studies. Several others such as USC and Wisconsin have certificate programs.

Also, your friend should be aware that 1) academic jobs in the humanities are few and far between and 2) those in "studies" fields are even harder to find.

She might want to take a look at the Chronicla of Higher Education's forums to get an idea of what's up in the field:

Chronicle Forums - Index

just enter "Women's Studies" in the search field. Also try "Gender Studies".

Good Luck!
