$55 million donation to UTAustin's School of Music by Sarah and Ernest Butler.

there's a really nice violin teacher there. if anyone wants someone very encouraging and a male version of Ms. Delay, go to texas. Is the school nice?

UT Austin is highly regarded among the state schools and has a noted rep of consistently producing fine musicians and educators. There are strong grad areas in a few instruments.

Many are drawn by the music scene in Austin. I hear performance opportunities and visiting artists are abundant.

It's been awhile since I looked at a faculty list.

My teacher went to UT-Austin as an undergrad and has had nothing but good to say about the school and the city in general. I really liked the school when I visited (as a prospective transfer) - it had the best practice room situation of any school I've been to.

This donation does seem a deliberate attempt to one-up Indiana and the Jacobs donation there. The rhetoric about being the "finest public music school in the nation", which UT-Austin says it's trying to achieve, was all over Indiana when I auditioned there.

I'm talking about Brian Lewis. He has some really good students and they are all basically in love with him.

The whole UT system is trying to improve their music depts. Also is the Texas Tech System. Its just great to see a great renewed and continued interest in music.

They have a good jazz department there too, run by old compatriot Jeff Helmer.
