UT Austin

UT Austin has recently had a very large donation to their music program. Does anyone out there know anything about this program? It does not seem to get much mention on this forum.

thanks for any info.

I know a little bit about it, I auditioned and got accepted there. I wasn’t too particularly impressed with the students who were currently at that school, but the faculty (for my particular studio) was pretty good. It’s certainly a legitimate place to look though. It’s not a top tier, but it’s a respectable school.

I originally posted the donation article two years back in the thread here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/475958-wonderful-news-ut-austin.html?highlight=UT+Austin

The link no longer works, but as far as I can remember this appears to be that article [Butler School of Music | Welcome to the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music](http://www.music.utexas.edu/news/details.aspx?id=87)

Solid strings, with Brian Lewis who is much in demand, and the recent addition of Ann Akiko Meyers. The Miro Quartet has been the QIR there for a while.

Seems the flute program is worth looking into as well [Butler School of Music | Welcome to the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music](http://www.music.utexas.edu/news/details.aspx?id=102)

Marianne Gedigian is one of the most sought after flute professors! Yes, definately one to look into and definately a top tier!
